The arts and crafts movement of the late nineteenth century gave rise to a surge of creativity in American crafts. The first American art pottery--Rookwood, founded in 1870--was quickly followed by the establishment of other now-famous ceramics studios: Pewabic, Paul Revere, Overback, Roblin, Valentien, and Arequipa, among others. However diverse in form, their products are nevertheless unmistakably Arts and Crafts pieces.
